When most people think of chandeliers, visions of low-hanging crystals curving over a massive dining room table come to mind. There are, however, several different types of chandeliers. Each type originated in a vastly different environment. Modern lighting versus antique chandeliers is a personal preference. If you are interested in learning more about the two different chandelier styles, continue to read more about it below.
Murano Chandeliers
Murano glass chandeliers are considered modern. They are manufactured in Murano, Italy, which is world-famous for its glass blown products. Murano glass is blown into interesting varieties, such as colored grapes, delicate flowers and other shapes. Their chandeliers come in all different styles to suit your home decor theme. Since the glass is colored, the light creates pretty patterns around the room when it hits the chandelier.

Candle Chandeliers
These are on the antique side. Just as the name implies, a candle chandelier is made of iron or brass arms that curve up to hold small, candle-shaped bulbs. Sometimes the bulbs are covered by a lampshade to add a romantic glow to the room. This style of chandelier was invented hundreds of years ago during the medieval period. Obviously, the chandeliers back then held actual candles, not bulbs, but that would be a fire hazard today. Your home decor should be made of stately hard woods and iron in order to suit this type of chandelier.
Candle chandeliers are among the most expensive type of lighting you can buy. Very old chandeliers go for hundreds of thousands of dollars, which makes them collectibles. You can find these lamps online, on eBay and in antique shops. Of course, there are inexpensive reproductions you can buy online that look just like antiques, too. Another popular option is to buy a reproduction or antique and then refinish it with new paint, bulbs and lampshades.
